Last week, I noticed Nox was licking her left front foot. I thought she might have a burr stuck to her foot, so I turned her over to take a look.
Her poor foot! She didn’t have a burr or anything I could see, but she had licked one pad raw. She must’ve licked it overnight to get it in such bad shape.
Bruce and I worked together to get her foot clean and doctored. Bruce used the headlamp to get bright light on her foot so he could see if there was anything in her foot. He didn’t spot anything, so he put Bactine on it. He then wrapped a bandage around the foot and taped it.
We’ve been putting Bactine on her foot every day and putting a bandage on her foot while Nox wears the cone of shame.
Her pad started to look a bit better, so we were pleased with how it was healing up.
Then earlier this week, we somehow didn’t fasten the cone on correctly. While we were gone, Nox got the cone off. She chewed the bandage off and proceeded to lick her paw again. It wasn’t as bad as the first time, but most of the healing went out the window. We were upset with ourselves and grateful she didn’t eat the bandage.
She has recovered somewhat from that incident, but if she doesn’t get over this soon, it will be a trip to the vet.

poor Nox! Hope she gets better soon!

Is it possible that she might have picked up a burr on a walk? I ask because our dachshund had one that was embedded in his paw. We couldn’t see it but the vet immediately understood the problem and removed it (I guess a small tip was still sticking out).

That might be it. I haven’t seen any burrs here, but that doesn’t mean she didn’t find one. We decided to take her to the vet if she isn’t better by Wednesday.

On you, Nox, the cone is a regal collar. You wear it well. That being said, I hope you feel better soon. ❤️

Thank you. I’ve never heard it called a regal collar before. Nox likes regal collar instead of cone of shame!
I hope she is better soon as well. I wish I knew what caused the problem.

Could it be allergies? I’ve known some dogs to really harm themselves when licking itchy paws.

Maybe? Luckily, she is only having a problem with the one paw pad.

Gasp. Not the cone of shame! Poor Nox. It might be worth a vet visit. It’s so hard to figure out where to take a pet on the road.

Lucky, we got a vet recommendation from one of the camp hosts. If Nox isn’t a lot better by next Wednesday, we are taking her in for a vet visit.

Poor baby. Give her some extra hugs and kisses from me and tell her I hope she gets better soon.

I’ll do that! She is being very patient with us doctoring her foot. I can tell it still bothers her sometimes since she will try to get around the cone to get to her foot.

Poor baby. She has the best doctors available, and she knows how much you and Bruce love her. She loves you both too.

Will do! We are calling the vet in the morning. Her foot isn’t improving as fast as we had hoped.
