November 5, 2023
On November 4 (Saturday), Bruce crawled under the RV to grease the pivoting shafts for the MORryde independent suspension. The shafts need to be greased every 6,000 miles or 12 months.
While he was under the RV, he noticed something hanging down. He called out to me that we had something hanging down from the RV. He crawled over to that side of the RV and that middle wheel that was bouncing up and down, had the brake line disconnected.
Bruce said he could see where brake fluid sprayed out. At first, he thought the connector wasn’t damaged, but on closer inspection Bruce could tell the metal on the connector was worn.
Bruce called an RV mobile tech and he agreed to come out on the next day (Sunday, November 5).
On November 5 (Sunday), the tech came out and looked at the damage. The tech discovered we had also lost a brake shoe.
The tech was going to have to get parts and hopefully he will be able to get it repaired on Monday (November 6).
It is not safe for us to move without brakes on the RV.

Ugh. RV maintenance can be a real problem. Sometimes we had to pay exorbitant shipping for parts, and they still took 10 days to arrive. If this happens when we’re at home, ok. But on the road…difficult. I hope you get back up and running soon.

Yes, it is a pain. Thanks for the well wishes. This is going to be an expensive repair. As Bruce says, this is outside his wheelhouse, so we are going to have to pay someone to do the repair. Bruce contacted MORryde and I think they will be overnighting the parts. Luckily, the RV a campground was understanding and allowed us to extend our stay for a week.

Thank goodness the campground had availability got you. It could have been awful, otherwise.

Yes, indeed! Unfortunately, the brake pad was supposed to arrive yesterday and didn’t. Looks like we are going to need to extend our stay again. The campground has been really great about helping us, so if we have to extend again, I am sure they’ll do their best.

I bet you are very glad to have discovered this problem before it caused an accident on the road. Hope the repair happens in a timely manner.

Yes, I don’t want to imagine trying to stop this beast of an RV with just the truck brakes. We are hoping to get the brakes repaired today or tomorrow.

Yes, RV without enough braking power is scary! I’m catching up on posts, and assume some of the ones I’ve not yet read have you repaired and on the road!

No, we are still stuck in place. The parts are arriving today and repairs will be made tomorrow.
