On September 25 (Monday), we put Nox into her traveling harness and hooked it to the back seat.
Bruce drove to a trail head on the New River Trail State Park. He was a bit upset to find the parking fee was $7 at the first stop. We continued on to the next trailhead, the Shot Tower.

We decided to pay the $7 fee and park. The tag from paying the fee is good for one day and you can use it in all the parking lots in the New River Trail State Park.
There was information about the Shot Tower. I never knew such a manufacturing technique existed!

We got some shots of the Shot Tower and from the deck. Tours of the Shot Tower are done on Saturdays.

Nox was getting tired of walking, so we put her in the backpack before hiking on the New River Trail State Park.
The New River Trail State Park is a rails-to-trails park. In some places, the park is very narrow, it only has a narrow bit of land on either side of the trail. In other places, the park widens out to include campgrounds and other recreational facilities, such as stables for horse riding.

We walked to the road and along side the road back to the trail. We walked back to the truck and harnessed Nox into the truck, after taking her out of the backpack and letting her stretch her legs.
We decided to continue the with our day by checking out another section of the park. I’ll do another post about it.
The bucolic view of the New River looking across at the bridge and the barns is really nice. I like the angles of the trestles on the train bridge also.

Thank you. This was such a scenic park. Bruce was the one who suggested the picture of the trestles.

Oddly enough, there isn’t much in the way of information about the shot tower on the Virginia park site. The information sign mentions that the shot tower was the first to mass produce shot.
