Heading to Fort Chiswell RV Park, VA

October 6, 2023

As we went through our check list, Bruce decided to crawl underneath the RV to look at the MORryde independent suspension rather than the normal look from the end.

He came back with some upsetting news. On the camp side of the RV, each bolt on each wheel holding the shocks were bent. On the utility side (driver’s side) two of the bolts were fine, but the rear bolt was sheared off and the shock was hanging free.

He logged into Facebook and reached out to the RV community to determine if it was safe for us to move.

He was reassured by the answers he received and we felt confident we could safely travel.

We discussed how our suspension could have been damaged. After some thought, I told Bruce I thought it was damaged when we pulled into the space at Dakota Ridge Campground in Golden, CO.

He thought about it and agreed, that was probably when the damage happened. That space should be a back-in and not a pull-through.

On Friday (September 22), we rolled out of Candy Hill Campground and back to I-81 south.

We arrived safely at Fort Chiswell RV Park in Virginia. After we set up the RV, we relaxed for a bit.

We decided to take other campers’ recommendations of the Mexican restaurant across the street in the little strip mall.

We walked over to the restaurant and were pleased with the food. We found the usual salsa to be bland. Bruce asked if they had a hotter salsa than the usual one. The server said yes, and brought us a delicious spicer and hotter salsa.

When we walked home, the sun was setting and the colors were beautiful.

The field in the picture above belongs to the campground, so we walked across it to get to and from the Mexican restaurant, Happy Cinco de Mayo.

  1. The countryside is beautiful! Do you think the issue with the shocks were why a couple of folks told you the middle tire was bouncing up and down or was that due to something else? I hope it won’t be too difficult or too expensive to repair, but since everything is these days it would be nice, right?

    1. Yes, we do believe that is why we’ve had a couple of people tell us that the middle tire was bouncing up and down. Bruce contacted MORryde directly and they sent us a replacement shock at no charge to us. They also reassured Bruce that the bent bolts were not a problem. He sent pictures so their techs could see what had happened. They said this sort of thing happens when you are out on the road. Great customer service! Bruce got instructions on how to remove and replace the shock. He is missing his tool chest with all his tools right now. He’s pretty sure he can replace the shock with the tools he has with us, if he can just find what he did with his lock jaw pliers.
