Hiking Along the North Coast Inland Trail in Ohio

September 20, 2023

On August 29 (Tuesday), we decided to go for a hike. The North Coast Inland Trail is very close to the Gotta Getaway RV Park. We simply walked to the trail head by crossing US 20 and walking several yards east to Sandhill Road. We walked south along Sandhill Road to the trail head, just past the railroad crossing.

This was a rails-to-trails hiking trail. We started walking east on the trail, towards the trees.

Flowers were blooming along the trail. Some of the Pokeweed berries were green and others had turned a deep purple.

We were able to watch a train roar past us as we walked along the trail. We also had a number of bicyclist ride past us.

It was a pretty, fairly shaded walk. The trail was flat and well maintained.

  1. Hi Julia! This looks like a location for my ebook, RVingwithBikes. Would you say one could ride a bike from the campground to the trail? Crossing US20 and walking on Sandhill Road wasn’t too much traffic? When I Google the trail, it says it is asphalt but it looks like crushed limestone (or some hard gravel surface) in your photos. If it can go in the ebook, I am happy to credit you and your blog for the contribution. Please let me know if you think it’s a good location for the camping/biking (in the partial hook ups section) and how you’d like to be credited. It’s getting harder and harder for me to find new locations as I’ve got over 300 now, so I’m excited to find another. Thanks for your post, Julia!

    1. Hi Betty! Yes, one could easily ride a bike to the trail. I would say it was packed crushed limestone by the campground. The bicyclist we saw weren’t having any issues riding on the trail. Maybe parts of the trail is asphalt in other locations. I do think it is a great location for camping and biking. You can ride your bike to Bellevue or Norfolk from the campground. Please feel free to use the information and you can credit the find to Julia from RetirementRVDream.com.

      1. Thanks for the info! Since it looks like you have to cross a busy road on Google Maps, I wouldn’t have included it. I always err on the side of caution. Now that I know for sure, it goes in the book! I will credit you, too! Thanks again!
