Riverwalk along St. Joseph River in Niles, Michigan

August 10, 2023

On July 31 (Monday), we decided to checkout the riverwalk along the St. Joseph River in downtown Niles in Michigan.

We took the truck and found a parking lot right near the riverwalk and a bridge over the St. Joseph.

We walked onto the bridge and looked at the St. Joseph River from the bridge.

After walking halfway across the bridge, we turned around and headed back to the riverwalk.

We walked under the bridge we were just on. We walked towards this bridge.

The sidewalk went underneath the bridge and also up to the road. We walked up to the road and then back down to the river and walked underneath the bridge. A short ways past the bridge, we came to a sign that said Riverfront Park.

The Riverfront Park had a lot of geese and ducks hanging about.

The trail spilt off from from the river.

Google Maps listed Niles Dam, Fish Ladder & Park as part of the riverwalk. We realized the path we were on was not taking us to the dam.

We saw a small path to the road that cut through the woods. We took it and found ourselves by a power station. There was a lake on each side of the road. There were swans swimming on one of the lakes.

When we got to the end of the road, there was a gate. On one side of the gate, there was a walkway around the gate post. We looked back and saw this sign.

As we walked over to the river, we could hear the falls over the dam.

We started back along the road and got back to the trail. We passed the Ruff & Tumble Dog Park. It was split into two sections. The big dog section was huge! I believe it was at least an acre, maybe more. The small dog section was much smaller. I didn’t get any pictures of the dog park.

We walked back on the riverwalk and then we walked up the sidewalk along the road. We were heading to Front Street Pizza Pub for lunch.

Bruce asked if I’d be willing to drive the truck home. I said I would be okay to drive the truck home. Bruce happily ordered a beer to go with his meal.

Once we finished lunch, we walked back to the riverwalk.

A butterfly landed on Bruce’s hat. When I asked Bruce to stop so I could get a picture, the butterfly took off and landed on a bush.

Near where we parked the truck was a sculpture.

As I read the weight of the sculpture, my brain immediately thought, “our truck could tow this without any trouble.” Clearly, my brain is very proud of Cliff the Big Red Truck.

After looking at the sculpture, we headed to the truck. I drove us home. Nox, as always, was happy to see us and to get a walk to one of the dog walks.
