Getting Set Up at Spaulding Lake Campground in Niles, Michigan

August 4, 2023

On July 22 (Saturday), we got the RV parked, unhitched, and leveled, Bruce opened the RV and started putting out the slides. I watched the slides come out on the outside of the RV and using the walkie talkie, let Bruce know that we had no problems.

I went to get Nox from the truck. We leave her door open while we level the RV and extend the slides. If it is hot, we leave the truck idling with the AC running so Nox doesn’t overheat. We leave Nox in the truck until the slides are out because she is scared when her home is doing all sorts of weird things. The slides moving are particularly scary to her.

When I came in with Nox, Bruce handed me a round piece of plastic. The cover for one of the air vents had fallen off.

Bruce went off to pay for our spot with a check since there was a discount for paying with cash or check (saving money is good). I used the step stool to reach the vent and snapped the vent cover back into place. It was easier for me to this since I am taller than Bruce.

After the RV was set up, we walked Nox in one of the campground’s four dog walk areas.

After taking the tires Nox back to the RV, Bruce and I walked around the park. There are three ponds full of fish with dragonflies flitting about. There are two steams that run through the property. We enjoyed walking along the Nature Trail through the woods. The Nature Trail comes out at the Juneau Park.

I was surprised by the crayfish chimneys. I didn’t think crayfish lived like that in Michigan. Bruce seemed surprised as well.

The campground also has a nice playground, as seen from one of my kitchen windows.

The campground has a basketball court and shuffle board court. Horseshoe can be played by the ponds.

While the campsites aren’t wide, they are long and come with picnic tables and a fire ring. The fire rings are made from truck wheels and rest on a concrete pad.

Nox is enjoying this campground. It has no burrs, so she can walk around safely. While they don’t have a fenced dog park, they do have nice areas set aside for dog walks.

    1. The mosquitoes haven’t been as bad as I was expecting here. They were very bad in Illinois. We couldn’t go out without bug spray.
