Pictures of Pretty Red Okra

August 3, 2026

Updated August 7 to correct grammar errors. This is what happens when I write a post as I am drifting off to sleep and posting it.

Vero, from https://verosverbiagevisuals.com/ and I were exchanging comments about okra flowers. I happen to mention that I was growing red okra. I asked if she wanted to see pictures of my red okra, she replied with a yes.

So Vero, here are the pictures of the red okra

I love how pretty this variety of okra is. I am thinking of growing in the flower garden next year. It would make a lovely backdrop plant.

  1. Thank you so much Julia for posting the pictures. It is a gorgeous plant indeed!!!

I will share mine when it gets to a decent size. I sliced mine super thin and then fried it really brown. Most of the slimyness went away.

    1. I look forward to seeing what your plants look looking like.

I also slice my okra very thin, I toss it with cornmeal and in a cast iron skillet, fry it in a little oil until brown. The cornmeal acts as an absorbent, reducing the slimy texture.

      1. Thank you for the info about hibiscus. I was going to look that up. I was going through my pictures and saw one of a little ground hugging hibiscus that I got from a packet of mixed wild flower seed. The flower looked almost identical.
