Taking our Friends to Mitchell’s Smoked Meats

On June 16, after our visit to FAME Recording Studios, we were all (Larry, Jeanne, Bruce, and I) very hungry. We hadn’t had a meal since breakfast and it was around 5:00 PM when we finished our tour of FAME Recording Studios.

The week before Jeanne and Larry arrived, Bruce and I spent some time discussing restaurants that might be fun and interesting for Jeanne. Jeanne is a food blogger (ajeanneinthekitchen.com),and we wanted her to have a fun Shoals food experience. Collectively, the four cities on the Tennessee River that come together are known as the Shoals.

Bruce and I decided on two restaurants, Mitchell’s Smoked Meats and the 360 Grille. If Jeanne and Larry could stay longer, I had meals planned around my garden produce and locally sourced chicken, beef, and sausage. I knew Larry was on vacation and they might not be able to visit more than a day or two. Denver, Colorado is a long way from Blackberry Homestead in Muscle Shoals, Alabama.

We decided on Mitchell’s Smoked Meats since it is some of the best BBQ we’ve had. Larry smokes meats, so we thought they would enjoy delicious Southern BBQ. If we got lucky, Jeanne would be able to meet the man himself, Mr. Mitchell. We decided on 360 Grille because it is a rotating tower restaurant, showing different views of the Tennessee River and the area surrounding it.

Below, I reblogged Jeanne’s review of Mitchell’s Smoked Meats. Jeanne writes beautifully and I am happy to share her blog posts so others can enjoy them.

BBQ is synonymous with the south. We were in the deep south and needed some authentic southern BBQ. Bruce knew just where to take us too. He took us…

Eating Our Way Through The South – Part 3 – Mitchell’s Smoked Meats

We had a great time eating BBQ at this small friendly family business who are serious about smoked meats. Mr. Mitchell once told us he named his restaurant, Mitchell’s Smoked Meats, because he wanted people to know it was about the smoke. He doesn’t use a sauce on his low and slow cooked meats.
