Not a Good Day

December 28, 2025

This morning (Sunday 28), my FIL got up and got showered around 6:00 am. He called my SIL to come and put on the moisturizer and compression sleeve. As she was putting on the moisturizer, my father-in-law started having severe pain in his stomach. She called 911, knocked on our door as we were getting ready to leave. My sister-in-law sat with my father-in-law and rubbed his back while he groaned in pain.

Bruce got the doors ready so the EMTs could come right in. The EMTs got my father-in-law into his wheelchair and then onto the gurney bed. While one group rolled him out, another EMT asked for my FIL’s medication list and his driver’s license.

The ambulance left, running sirens and lights.

Bruce and my sister-in-law followed in our car. I am so grateful this happened before we left. This way we can support each other. We were in the process of packing the last things to leave. We had already packed most of our things last night.

To make myself useful, while waiting for news, I cleaned my FIL’s room and bathroom. I washed the sheets and discovered the sewer pipe was backed up. The washing machine leaked water, the toilets gurgled, and the sinks are slow to drain. I started calling plumbers and had no luck. I went next door and got the name of a plumber the neighbors use. The plumber’s office answered and said they could be there tomorrow.

My father-in-law is in surgery right now. He has a leak somewhere in his GI (gastrointestinal aka digestive) system. The surgery is expected to take two hours. Waiting is very hard.

Here’s Lola watching out the window as her dog mom left with Bruce to follow the ambulance this morning.

I will update you on how it goes.

  1. I read the update and commented so I’m just going to say there’s a good chance I will be sneaking in and dognapping Lola. Such a cutie pie! I think Golden Retriever Inc. should release a 2026 model of GR with shorter legs as an option.
