Making Lunch for Friends

December 1, 2025

We had our friends over for lunch today. They have been putting up backer board in their kitchen for their new tile.

Since they have been working so hard, I wanted to make a nice meal for them.

Lunch on December 1, 2025

Appetizers

Charcuterie Board with the following items:

Goat Cheese Log rolled in dried apricots and sour cherries with crystalized ginger

Homemade Sourdough Crackers

Coastal Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Mushrooms Stuffed with Goat Cheese and Crab

Marinated Olives

Marinated Artichokes

Beef Sausage

Salad

Salad Greens with Homegrown Radishes and Spinach Mustard, Dressed with a Vinaigrette of Balsamic Vinegar and Lemon

Dinner

Homemade Lasagna with Three Cheese, with a Smear of Pesto from Homegrown Basil on the Plate

Homemade Vienna Bread

Dessert

Homemade Panna Cotta Topped with Caramelized Plum Slices, Garnished with a Sprig of Mint

I took the plates at the end of the table into the kitchen for plating.

I did not take any pictures of the food. I do wish I had at least taken a picture of the charcuterie board. I loved how the food looked on my Scottish slate cheeseboard.

I used our fiddlehead flatware, black plates, and the water glasses I inherited from my Great-aunt Hazel. I rolled the napkins for a candle fold and placed them in the water glasses.

I was delighted the dragonfly placemats and table runner looked great with the new blue paint.

For flowers, I bought red carnations and babies breath and placed them on the hutch.

  1. Amazing. I had planned exactly the same menu for Reiko and me today, but then I found out I was fresh out of caramelized plum slices so we settled for a peanut butter sandwich on white with a glass of milk. I hate when that happens.

😁 Just kidding. That was a wonderful spread.

    1. A cooking tip, you have to caramelize the plum slices yourself! Poor Reiko didn’t get any of the three cheeses that went into the lasagna since you didn’t know you should caramelize the plum slices yourself. 😆 I hope she enjoyed the peanut butter sandwich!

I was told by our guests that the meal was worthy of one of the expensive restaurants in Vegas. (It was very kind of them to say, but I don’t know that I would go that far!)
