My father-in-law’s surgery went well. He is in recovery right now. The surgeon had to remove more skin. The bones and structure of the knee look good.
The infection is in his blood and he will need to be on intravenous antibiotics for at least three weeks.
The doctor is saying they will have to take it one day at a time. There might be one more surgery depending how he responds.
He will need a skin graft surgery, which is why he will be sent to a burn unit for the skin grafts.
Bruce and I have discussed Bruce heading down. There are a couple of trade offs. With me here, I can take care of any problems and Nox is more comfortable. With me there, Bruce has his support right next to him. Bruce has already decided it would be better for me to remain at home. I think if Bruce’s dad’s recovery was at home, I’d go with Bruce.

My heart goes out to you all, Julia. Oh, the times the difficult decisions had to be made of whether to go, when to go, how long to stay, who should be where and what were the best options. A blogging friend who had already experienced it said, “We do the best we can, and that is usually enough.” I found that to be true for me also; if I did the best I could do, all I could do, then I was at peace with it and so were our parents. I will be thinking of you during this time.

The family had a Zoom call on Sunday with him. Bruce knows he’ll be helping out. He just isn’t sure when.

As are you. 🙂 Sometimes I get things that don’t show up in my feed too. I think it is gremlins in the machine.

That all sounds very scary. I hope the surgery went well and the recovery goes as expected. You can always join Bruce later if needed.

It is very scary. My father-in-law was transferred to burn unit yesterday. We were told that his treatment would have to be taken one day at a time. You are right, I can always join Bruce later. Thank you for your well wishes.
