Bruce drove Cliff the Big Red Truck to the Look Rock Campground in the Great Smoky Mountain National Park. The views were spectacular!
Betty had kindly texted me where we should park.
Once we got to the campground and parked, Betty and Dan were waiting for us. I grabbed the peaches from the cooler and we introduced ourselves. We were invited inside of their RV. Dan put the peaches in their fridge. I admired their RV. It was a nice size for camping trips. They told us how many it could sleep, I think it was 5 or 6. Betty gave me a cute Christmas ornament camper with a cambersontheroad.com label on it. I’ll take a picture and post it later.
Dan drove us through the campground so we could see it. It is a beautiful campground. The sites are well spaced with lots of trees. (There are bears though, see https://chambersontheroad.com/2025/06/12/bear-aware/ for the bear story.)
We went to the Look Rock Tower Trail. Betty took the picture of me and Bruce. Dan took the picture of Betty, me and Bruce.

Yes, I am wearing a beige colored compression sock on my left leg. See https://retirementrvdream.com/2025/02/06/a-me-day/ as to why.
Dan drove us to dinner. We had planned to eat at Jim Bob’s BBQ. While the door was open, no one was inside. We decided it was time for a different restaurant. Dan drove us to The Riverstone Restaurant, which made Bruce and I laugh a bit, since we own a Riverstone RV.
The Riverstone Restaurant serves down-home cooking in a “rustic, wood paneled dining room with a fireplace and Old West vibe.” The fried green tomatoes were delicious. Betty and Dan had never had fried green tomatoes before. We offered them a fried green tomato each. They enjoyed them as well. The food for dinner was good.
I had to go to the restroom and saw this old pump organ on the way.

Dan drove us back to the campground. He stopped at an overlook area that allowed us to see both sides from the ridge.

As we drove back to the hotel room from the campground, Bruce and I saw a rainbow.

Bruce walked Nox around the resort grounds while I walked with them.

I really liked the lights on the tree. Maybe we’ll do something similar to the purple magnolia out front after the fireflies stop lighting up the yard for the season.
It was a great day!
Julia, your pictures are great! You really captured the Look Rock Tower views. I thought that the old pump organ was a piano. I can see it now! And oh yes, those fried green tomatoes were delicious! The sunset at the resort was so pretty. It was a wonderful time with you and Bruce. Thank you for posting about it – and for visiting us!

Thank you! The views were spectacular! We enjoyed meeting and visiting with you and Dan. I loved your watercolor for painting the past. Thank you so much for the little Christmas ornament and I’m looking forward to using it.

Y’all look like you had fun! I enjoyed all the photos, and it really made me ready to go visit the park again. It is such a beautiful place. I did not even notice the compression sock on your leg and had to go back and look again after you mentioned it!

It is such a beautiful place. That’s what I hoped for when I bought the beige compression socks.

How fun that you got to meet Betty and Dan! And I love Smokey Mountain National Park. We have been there multiple times, as my cousin and family live in that area. We went to Look Rock Tower while on a road trip to visit them in the fall of 2022.

It was a lot of fun to meet Betty and Dan. They are lovely people and lots of fun.
Isn’t fun to know we’ve been to the same place, even if it was years apart? I loved the views from Look Rock Tower.
If you are in the area and would like to stop by in Muscle Shoals/Florence/Tuscumbia AL, we’d love to see you. If you have time on your next visit, we could try to meet up at the Smoky Mountain National Park as well. We love the Smoky Mountains.

I will keep that in mind! And of course if you are ever driving through Minnesota, give me a shout out. Or Arizona during January, February or March.
