Tiny Little Pecans Are Leafing Out

April 12, 2025

On Thursday (April 10), I had PT in the morning. I was still sore from all the work I did on Tuesday and Thursday. Bending over and pulling up poison ivy was a lot of work. We’ve got so much to pull up.

After PT, Bruce drove me home. I was sore from PT. Bruce found his arms and hands were aching from all the chainsawing and moving wood he did earlier in the week.

We walked around Blackberry Homestead. I was delighted to see the tiny pecan trees I had planted leafing out.

The big pecan trees have also started leafing out.

I took some pictures of the chainsaw work and log moving Bruce did earlier.

Since we were sore, we took it easy. Using the loppers and clippers, we started clearing the fence line on the north side. Bruce hooked the cart to the mower and I tossed the branches into the cart. Bruce would drive the mower to the bonfire spot and unload the cart.

North Fence Line with Cut Trees Moved to Bonfire Spot

The bonfire spot has logs from the pine tree. The area behind the larger logs is piled high with branches that fell during the storm.

Bruce called his dad to see how he was doing. My father-in-law was released to do all his normal living tasks. He is still doing some PT.

  1. It is good to hear Bruce’s father is doing well! I hear you on the sore from the work. Though we have not done near what you have, I like to use the “I am much older than you” card occasionally–it comes in handy. Are any of the pecan trees there old enough produce pecans?

    1. It has been a relief that Bruce’s father recovered so well.

The big pecan trees do produce pecans. We found pecan seedlings in the fence line. Last year, with the drought, I don’t think they had enough water to produce pecans.

      1. Thanks! With as much water as we are getting right now, I hope the trees will keep getting enough to make enough pecans that we can go get them shelled.
