Waiting on the Shingles for the Roof

December 5, 2024

We were hoping to have the new roof in place this week. Nope. The shingles have been ordered, but it will take two to three weeks to get here. The manufacturers slow down this time of year.

When I called to get the date or estimated date for the roofers, I mentioned that during the last rainstorm, we had more water leaking into the house.

One of the owners of the company came out with a couple of his guys. Originally, they were going to put a tarp on the roof, but after a lot of investigation, they replaced the boot over the plumbing vent. It was falling apart and letting water in. The inspector did catch that the boot needed replacement, so I feel somewhat better.

We found out we have 1 X 6 inch grooved planks for our roof decking on the main part of the house. This house is most likely built earlier than 1972. I am guessing they inclosed the carport in 1972.

  1. Oh, I feel for you! We found out on our last replacement that the roofer before them had put the vents on backwards and thus, the water was blowing in when it rained. They got that corrected also, and assured us this roof would last longer than we do. Randy said, Are you sure? I am planning on at least another 15-20!
