Scenes from the Backyard

November 20, 2024

Monday (November 18) was a lovely day. I walked around the yard and got some pictures.

The grass has gotten surprisingly tall and the false dandelions are blooming. The butterflies enjoy the false dandelions. I have seen several different types of butterflies.

The fritillary butterfly is visiting a false dandelion aka cat’s-ear aka flatweed.

I’ve rescued several ladybugs from inside the house. I am not sure how they are getting inside. I am also seeing them on the outside of the windows.

On Tuesday (November 19), it rained most of the day. No more roof leaks into the house though. This rain didn’t have the strong winds to blow water under the shingles.

I looked out the window and saw a cute avian couple playing in the rain. I was only able to get a picture of the male.

Today, the rain had cleared up and the sunshine was lovely. We had strong winds most of today; cold weather has blown in.

I am sharing the before last week’s storm and after last week’s storm pictures of the next-door neighbors hickory tree.

Nox is missing the cows and donkeys. Our neighbor has moved them to a different pasture.

Where, oh where, are the cows?

  1. The ladybugs take over here relentlessly during a period of time, usually early spring, but with climate change, they may be feeling like it is early spring. We are never really sure how they get in, but they do. If it was just one, that would not be so bad, but it is normally 20 or so a day. Sigh. Ya just gotta roll with it, baby (Steve Winwood).

    1. Many things seem to think it is early spring. The henbit is blooming! It blooms at Easter!

The trees seem to believe it is fall and have leaves changing color.
