Bruce Heads to Georgia by Way of Florida

November 6, 2024

Warning: This post has a lot of pictures, so it may be slow to load.

On Monday (November 4), we went to the RV and I did the small amount of laundry we had. Bruce wanted to take as many clothes as he could on his trip.

Nox was happy we took her with us. She enjoyed doing Nox things in the dog park.

Once a load of laundry was started, we went to the Restore Habitat for Humanity store. I picked up an actual night stand for $35. It is in rough shape, but it is something I don’t mind trying furniture painting. I’ve seen some beautiful painted furniture. Some of it is real wood, and some of it is “furniture” wood.

We walked along the street next to the Restore store. It was full of antique shops and a butcher shop. It was fun to look around the antique shops. The butcher shop wasn’t open, but I plan to go back when it is.

We went back to the RV, started another load of laundry, checked to see if Nox needed anything, and went out again. This time, we went to Target. We bought a couple of lamps and three Cuisinart (TM) pots to replace the pots that didn’t work with my new induction stove.

Then it was back to the RV to pack up more things, finish laundry and go home. It does feel strange that the RV is not home now.

Bruce then spent the rest of the evening getting ready for his trip to Georgia by way of Florida. I hung out with him and generally made myself useful.

The sunset from the garage door was beautiful.

The hood is up on the truck as Bruce was using the truck batteries to run the air pump to make sure the motorcycle tires had enough air.

Bruce is going to be gone for two and a half weeks at least. It maybe longer. My father-in-law had hip replacement surgery and needs someone there to drive and to generally help out. Bruce’s sisters were there at first. Bruce’s visit is going to overlap with his youngest sister’s visit for a few days. He’ll learn what my father-in-law needs from his sister.

Tuesday morning (November 5), Bruce headed to Jekyll Island, Georgia by way of Bushnell, Florida on the motorcycle. Bushnell is a bit out of the way, but we need our paperwork from the safe deposit box in Florida. We need it so we can get our Alabama driver’s licenses and our vehicle registered in Alabama.

As I watched Bruce ride out, I realized Nox was also watching him ride away. She slowly walked partway down the driveway and sat down to watch him leave. Nox watched for a while to see if Bruce would come back.

I got a call and text from the delivery company that was supposed to be delivering the dishwasher. Instead of November 5th, they changed the date to November 7th.

I was already feeling a bit down because Bruce left. This added to that down feeling a bit.

While I was eating breakfast, I heard a loud thud from my living room. I knew something had hit the picture window. Sure enough, there was a dead white-throated sparrow lying underneath the window. I was rather upset by the dead bird. I buried it in the front yard.

I texted Bruce to let him know about the delivery date change and the dead bird.

At a stop, Bruce called and talked to me for a while. I felt much better after hearing his voice. He had gotten rained on for a bit, but once past Birmingham, Alabama, the rain had stopped.

Bruce knows I worry about him when he is riding on the motorcycle. He suggested I look into apps that will let me know where he is. I thought that was a great idea.

I downloaded Life360 and set it up. It was super easy. It even sent Bruce a text with the instructions on what he should do.

I went outside since the weather was lovely and started digging up weeds by the house. We have so many false dandelions and real dandelions. I felt so much better after doing physical work for a while.

The cows were out, as well as the donkeys. Nox was utterly fascinated. She headed over to the fence for some serious cow watching.

I put down my weeding tool to take the pictures of Nox watching the cows. You can see my weeding tool to the right of Nox.

After I got tired of weeding, Nox and I went inside. I had to wash up and Nox took a nap.

At a fuel stop, Bruce followed the instructions sent by Life360 and suddenly, I could see he was in Georgia. At various points, I’d check to see where he was. It was very nice to know he was okay. My worry level dropped.

Bruce stopped for the night 57 miles from Bushnell, Florida. He texted to let me know he had stopped for the night. He went to get something to eat. He called after getting back to the room.

This morning, I saw Bruce had arrived at the bank in Bushnell on the Life360 app. It sent me a notification saying Bruce had finished a trip. It sends notifications when Bruce stops for a while.

Later, Bruce sent a text with a picture of the FedEx envelope that has our paperwork.

I heard another loud bang and I was afraid I would find another dead bird. Instead, I found a tuft of small feathers on the window. From outside, the window is acting as a mirror.

Nox and I went outside while the sun was out. I dug up weeds in the backyard, while Nox meandered around the yard doing Nox things.

I admired the morning glories and the sulfur butterfly visiting the blooms.

When I got tired of weeding, I came inside and Nox followed me.

I wrote this very long blog post and will now figure out what I want for lunch.

  1. I’m glad y’all are using Life 360. Niece Chrissie got me on it, and we added my daughters Lise and Kate. Recently I watched Lise traveling in Taiwan, the Philippines, and South Korea. I can see when Kate is working in NJ, and they can see my avatar walk to the stop sign every morning. It has been lots of fun, while also being a safety thing.

      1. We have simple blinds. When we moved in, the owner had one handwoven blind. Really nice and it has lasted a very long time. Very well made. I will have to look into this app. Best with being alone. Glad you have Nox as he is good company.

    1. Bruce’s father is struggling with the pain right now. He is having to use a walker, which is stressing his shoulder joints, causing more pain. I just hope he gets past this and the constant pain he was in will be past. He was to the point he couldn’t get around anymore due to his hip.

It was so sad. Nox loves Bruce so much.

      1. My sister-in-laws got him a shoulder brace that goes on like a shirt. It is helping with the shoulder pain.

I am not sure what else could be done for the pain at the surgery site.
