It’s Leveling Time!

October 20, 2024

Nox came to visit this morning around sunrise. She is use to the blackout shades at the RV. The sunrise seems to wake her up at the house and she’s ready to join us.

She was very happy to be allowed in bed with us this morning. Bruce and I went back to sleep until the alarm for giving Nox her pills went off.

After Nox got her pills, Bruce and I read in bed for a while.

I started feeling hungry, so I got up and made breakfast. Since it was Sunday, bacon plus eggs for Bruce and bacon plus yogurt for me.

The bacon cooked up crisp and brown. Bruce assured me the fried eggs were delicious.

I cleaned the bacon spatters from the cooktop with vinegar. I was very surprised the manual recommended cleaning the cooktop with vinegar. It works well.

I had centered a paper towel on the large burner and put my larger cast iron skillet on the burner. The skillet heated more evenly, so I think I just didn’t have the skillet centered properly yesterday.

After the stovetop cooled down*, Bruce and I (mostly Bruce) leveled the range. The installers had the back feet up too high. Bruce had to adjust all the feet and it took about three tries.

I was delighted to have the range leveling completed. Bruce sat down and read for a while.

We walked around Blackberry Homestead and I pointed out all the work I had done. I discovered a whole another section of rocks to be moved.

Later in the day, we opened up the boxes Bruce brought from Golden, CO. It felt like Christmas! I was delighted to see so many of my things. Bruce was delighted as well. We chattered happily about the items in the opened boxes.

I put more kitchen items from theRV away. I do believe my upper cabinets in the RV are deeper than the ones in the house. The upper cabinets in the house are installed higher up and go to the ceiling. They are also installed higher up than my previous two houses. The top shelf is almost unreachable without the step-stool. Bruce can’t reach the top shelf (he’s two inches shorter than me).

For dinner, I made steak and a spicy, cheesy cauliflower casserole.

I made a spicy cheesy cauliflower casserole using both the cooktop and the oven. I used the speed boost feature on the cooktop to boil the water faster. I tried out one end of flex burner to make the bechamel sauce.

I used the telescopic rack to put the casserole into the oven. What a game changer! I didn’t have to put the heavy pan into the oven while I leaned over and around the oven door.

While the casserole was baking, Bruce set up the grill we brought from the RV.

Once the casserole was close to being done, I grilled the steak on the grill.

Bruce offered to remove the casserole from the oven. I could tell I was smiling ear-to-ear as I said, “Watch this.”

I reached in with a dish towel and slide the telescopic rack forward. It just glided out! Bruce was impressed! He said, “That’s professional quality there!”

He wanted to know if I needed help putting the casserole on the towel. I laughed and told him I had it.

This was another milestone in the house, our first dinner in the house.

I didn’t take any pictures of the spicy cheesy cauliflower casserole. I still may write up the recipe since it was so delicious.

It is starting to feel less like camping in the house.

*Once the pan heats up, it transfers heat to the glass cooktop. The glass cooktop is no where near as hot as an electric cooktop. I found it to be warm to the touch.

    1. What brand oven do you have? There are several makes and models. If you have the brand and model number, I can do a search to see if there is something that will fit your oven. I am thinking about getting a couple of more of these amazing racks, but later.
