The Riverwalk in New Madrid, Missouri

After riding around Sikeston, Missouri on August 8th, we rode home to the RV. Nox was happy to see us.

We hung out at the RV for a while, then we decided to go to the Riverwalk in New Madrid. After walking Nox, we got geared up and headed out.

We rode past cotton fields, corn fields and soybean fields.

At the end of the trip, Google had us take the levee road, which was a gravel washboard road. Stupid Google. That was not the road to take on a motorcycle. There are perfectly good paved roads that would have worked great. In fact, we took one home.

Here are some tourist shots of New Madrid. We parked in the Riverwalk and Museum Parking Lot.

We arrived too late to tour the museum. We crossed road to the pier, which is one end of the New Madrid Mississippi Riverwalk.

The Riverwalk was along the top of the levee and ended in a park.

Gauge on Pier

After watching the tugboats and barges from the pier, we started walking along the Riverwalk. There were crepe myrtles and roses planted by the seating areas.

We enjoyed watching the tugboats and barges as we walked back to the pier.

We walked down to the motorcycle, geared up, and headed back home on paved roads.

We had a lovely sunset that evening and enjoyed it while walking Nox.

  3. We enjoyed New Madrid too! We did get to see the museum which is quite interesting. Not sure where you go next but if you have time to get over ton Reelfoot Lake, TN, I highly recommend it. The lake was formed by the New Madrid earthquake.

    1. New Madrid was the first American town in Missouri and founded in 1789 by George Morgan. George was promised a land grant of 15 million acres by the Spanish ambassador to help keep expansion of the U.S. in check. He named the town he founded after Madrid. Spain did not confirm the land grant; so George left the area. He had started the migration to Missouri by French and Americans.
