Current News – We Picked Up the Truck

August 1, 2024

Today, Bruce called the body shop at about 3:30 PM to find out if the truck would be ready.

Bruce was told how much work it was getting the truck put back together. Apparently, everything overlaps in the cab, so taking a roof off and putting it back on means removing the seats and most of the interior.

He was assured the truck would be ready today and he’d get a call back in an hour.

Bruce also found out the shop was open later than he thought, which was good news.

Well, an hour went by, then another. Bruce tried to call the body shop and didn’t get an answer. He tried again later and still no answer.

I joked, “Let me start dinner and we’ll get a call while I’m cooking or while we are eating.”

We finished dinner and still no call. We had given up when we got a call at about 8:30 PM.

The truck was ready!!!

We geared up and rode the motorcycle to the body shop. No one was in the office. I could hear noise from the side of the building.

We stepped into the side yard to see if we could spot Jim. In the second floor was a light next to the lift. Jim waved at us from the door and we waved back. We moved back into the front yard. Jim drove the truck onto the lift and it was something watching the lift come down with our monster truck.

Jim drove the truck into the front yard and we looked the truck over with flashlights.

It looked beautiful! The inside of the truck had been beautifully detailed. The truck hasn’t been this clean since we bought it!

We went inside to pay. The hail damage wound up being $17,000 and we had to pay the $1,000 deductible. We had also asked for some non-hail related dents to be repaired. That was another $1,500 for a total of $2,500 that we owed.

After paying for the truck repair, Bruce headed to his motorcycle, while I climbed into the truck at just after 9:00 PM.

I adjusted the seat. I reached up to adjust the rear view mirror. I thought it I had it adjusted. I and headed out. Bruce followed me on the motorcycle.

Bruce knows I have trouble seeing at night, so he followed me in case I ran into trouble. I had picked the route with the fewest traffic lights. Traffic lights with stopped traffic are very bad with my poor night vision.

I realized the rear view mirror wasn’t adjusted properly; I couldn’t see anything in the rear view mirror. I reached up and tried to get the mirror adjusted. I couldn’t get it adjusted and gave up. I was afraid to keep trying while driving the truck.

We made it safely back to the RV Park.

Since it was dark, I didn’t get any pictures of the truck. Tomorrow, I’ll take some pictures and share.
