More on Hail Damage to RV

June 16, 2024

We’ve been working with the Riverstone factory to get scheduled to repair the RV. We now have a date in September. The factory is saying it will take three days to repair.

A few days ago, we had a thunderstorm with heavy rain. Rain came in from the patched kitchen fan.

The next day, Bruce and I both climbed up on the roof of the RV to see if we could figure out why the patched fan was leaking.

We didn’t see any reason for the leak, so I am not sure why it leaked.

Because we were so close the front of the RV, I decided to take a look at the top of fiberglass end cap. The top of the end cap comes up over the roof of the RV for about a foot.

I found more hail damage on top of the fiberglass cap!!! Ugh!!!

I pointed it out to Bruce, so we took more pictures.

It is a bit hard to see the damage due to the dirt from the rain and the clouds reflecting on the end cap.

More pictures were sent to the insurance and to the factory. We received an estimate from the factory on repairing the end cap, another $2,500, and a list of the products they use. The insurance adjuster was quoting Dometic products prices for the AC and slide toppers, when our RV has Lippert products.

I am really glad Bruce sent the insurance estimate to the factory since they caught the errors. (Lippert is considered higher end than Dometic.)

Bruce forwarded the list of products on the RV to the insurance adjuster. We want to use the products that came with the RV. I think it will be important for resale. I also don’t like having more vendors to deal with.

Bruce is thinking of dropping in to the body shop next week to see how the repairs to the truck are coming along.

    1. Just when I thought things had settled down, I discovered more damage. I am afraid of what the factory might discover when they remove the slide toppers to replace them.

      1. At least it is scheduled – now to fight for the brands used to repair it.

We were just talking about your situation and have decided if there is even a slight chance of hail, we are pulling in the slideouts and hoping for the best for the roof. It just amazes me how much damage you had.

      2. If you’ve got tornado warning sirens blasting, better to leave the RV and take shelter.

We would’ve pulled in our slides if we had time. The storm came up so quickly for us.
