A Walk Around Downtown Quincy, Florida

March 20, 2024

This post is out of order, as it is about our day in historic downtown Quincy, Florida on March 12.

We decided to try out a restaurant that mostly got rave reviews in downtown Quincy, Big Papa’s Chop House. We rode the motorcycle to downtown Quincy and parked across the street from the restaurant in a two hour spot.

We crossed the street at a light. We were seated by the window.

Bruce ordered the daily lunch special, hickory smoked ribs or hickory smoked chicken with two sides. Bruce went with the smoked ribs, collard greens and fried okra. I ordered the pulled pork sandwich with chips.

My sandwich was one of the best pulled pork sandwiches I have ever had. It had crispy, crunchy bits from smoking and the hickory smoke flavor came through. The pulled pork was tender and delicious.

The only reason it wasn’t the best pulled pork sandwich I have had was the BBQ sauce. While it was a good BBQ sauce, I like my sauce spicy and less sweet.

It was an amazing sandwich and while I had planned to eat only half and take half home, I realized I had eaten the whole sandwich because it was just that good.

Bruce’s three ribs didn’t have any sauce and the bite he gave me was delicious. The ribs were smoked and cooked to perfection.

I ordered a key lime pie slice for dessert. It was lovely!

If we had stayed in the area longer, we would’ve kept going back to try other items on the menu.

Remains of Lunch

We moved the motorcycle from the two hour spot to side street parking and walked around the town square. The court house was in the center of the town square.

We stopped in at the Gadsden Art Museum, a restored hardware building. We enjoyed the exhibits. We weren’t allowed to take pictures of the art. I did get some pictures of non-art exhibits.

They had a lovely gift shop.

We wondered into a large deli that looked like a museum to the Gulf Coast oil companies.

We headed back to the motorcycle and I noticed this mural.

We rode straight home to check on Nox and remove her cone. Nox can’t drink or eat with the cone on.

I was just fine, thank you very much.
