Shingles Vaccine

September 18, 2020

Bruce got his blood work results yesterday and found out that he had chickenpox as a child. He didn’t remember having chickenpox and his parents weren’t sure if he had them. Since he had chickenpox, he can get shingles. After seeing the problems I’ve had from shingles, he wants to avoid them.

Since it had been so long ago that I had shingles, I was now eligible to get the shingles vaccine. Shingles can come back, so I wanted to get the vaccine. My great-aunt had shingles three times that I remember and it was so bad they had to hospitalize her each time.

So, yesterday, after work, Bruce and I went to pharmacy to get our first shot of the Shingrix vaccine. We have to get the second shot between two to six months later. November 17th is the earliest we can get the second shot.

If you are over 50 and had chickenpox, if you can have the shingles vaccine, I strongly recommend that you get it. The shingles vaccine can have side effects, but compared to shingles, it is worth it. Shingles are a nightmare and can permanently damage your eyes and nerves. 1. Agreed! I got my first shot in November. Yes it gave me a headache and tired for 2 days, but no big deal. So minor – nothing compared to Shingles. Hope this offers you protection now!
