Bruce Still Being Considered for Jury Duty and Chili Pepper Ristra Attempt

September 7, 2026

On August 27, Bruce had hoped the jury selection would be completed by the end of the previous day. It wasn’t, so he had to go back to the courthouse in the early morning. The number of the jury pool was smaller, but it was still a large pool.

I went out to the vegetable garden and caught as many as I could of the leaf-legged bugs. (I hates them.) I found several mating pairs on two beautiful tomatoes. I grabbed as many leaf-legged bugs as I could and dropped them into the jar of death, mwahaha!

I looked around the garden and enjoyed the bees and butterflies. We don’t get many domesticated bees (European honey bees) here. Instead, we get many different types of pollinators, wasps, flies, random butterflies, and many different types of wild bees. After living here for a while, I find I prefer a natural system that helps save the wild pollinators.

You can get an idea of how small the bumblebee is by seeing the grass next to it.

I enjoy seeing how pretty the caper is.

After the cucumber tornadoes yesterday, I decided to do something that was relaxing.

I made a chili ristra out of hot chili peppers. I’ve got more peppers, so I’ll be adding them later.

I discovered I wasn’t making the ristra correctly. Still, it looks pretty good.

I tried to take a picture of a butterfly on the back door. This is what I got.

Bruce came home with the news that he would have to go back the next day and still be in the jury pool for at least one more day.

The sunset was lovely ending to the day.

    1. No, we are in Muscle Shoals. It normally isn’t such a process, but this was a capital murder trial. The court was being very careful as they didn’t want a mistrial or any reason for an appeal.

      1. Yess, we live in a big city on the outskirts of Tampa and a lot goes on. Good and bad with everything. Years ago, I contemplated staying in Mobile as I was living in Gulf Shores and had just finished paralegal training but for a few reasons, I decided not to stay that path and live in Mobile. The commute was horrible.

  1. Sounds like the wheels of justice move slowly sometimes. After spending a lifetime in ther legal biz, I became used to it not moving quickly. I’ll bet the voir dire has been painfully slow for everyone. Hopefully he’ll be finished soon and not have to serve on that jury. Capital murder cases are not pleasant.

    1. Bruce was ready to get back to mowing and his tractor.

It took 5 days to select the jury and 7 days for the trial. The jury selection took almost as long as the trial. He was found guilty after 90 minutes of deliberations.
