Bruce Still Being Considered for Jury Duty and Watering the Gardens

September 2, 2026

On August 25, Bruce headed out for jury selection consideration.

I spent some time catching the evil leaf-legged bugs attacking my tomatoes and dropping them in soapy water.

Hackberry Emperor and Dead Leaf-legged Bugs

I mixed up my post for August 23 with today for watering. We’ve had a dry spell, and the pepper bucket brigade was drooping, as were the plants in the tall beds. I had to drag the hose over to the buckets and water the peppers, then move on to the tall beds. I checked the tall beds with my moisture detector and found they all needed water. This took most of the morning. Once the detector indicated a bed had enough water, I moved on to the next one. The pine mulch helps; the parts of the beds missing the pine mulch are drier.

A drip irrigation system would make watering so much easier. If Bruce doesn’t have time, I’ll think about how I can put one in and try it out. Except for the potted plants, I use the square foot garden method. I could run three drip irrigation solutions between the squares along the length of the bed. I might need to run two more, at each edge of the bed, making a total of five. I would try the three first to see how that works.

In the afternoon, I made oatmeal cookies with raisins, black walnuts, and Garam Masala. I really liked how these cookies came out. Bruce is enjoying them as a dessert after dinner.

I spent some time watching butterflies.

Bruce stopped on his way home to pick up prescriptions and some groceries. Once home, he mowed the vegetable garden area.

I didn’t take a picture of the sunset.

    1. Bruce didn’t get selected. I am so glad, even if he thought it would be an interesting case. It is a capital murder case. The police were chasing the perpetrator who killed someone and tossed him onto the road. The perpetrator did a hit an run on a car with a mother and her two kids. He shot and killed a policeman and shot and injured another policeman. He shot at the policemen who responded to help catch him. The jury is having to watch the very graphic videos from body cams and the dash cams right now.

    1. No, he isn’t. He greatly respects the men and women who have served in the military. I am so proud of my family members who served and are still serving in various branches of the military.

    2. Because of the motorcycle! We have big groups here of Vets with motorcycles. If you have any more questions about my hip surgery, you can always email me as I have the time to answer. I might not know everything just yet but hopefully all my questions will be answered next week by the Orthopedic Surgeon Appointment Follow up.

      1. That and he looks like a hands on person, and physically strong like many vets. Even now, a neighbor will stop me and ask about Mike, his cancer, and then remark, “He is very strong person.” Physically, he does a lot and still works with the energy he has. He lost a lot of weight but he is eating well. Good diet, he tells me. Enjoy your day!

    1. I love garam masala as a replacement spice for pure cinnamon. It provides a deeper flavor.

A small bit tastes great on watermelon, when the watermelon is cubed.
