If That Mockingbird Won’t Sing…

August 7, 2026

On August 5, I put together the garden kneeler and seat I ordered from Amazon. It was mostly easy to put together. It was hard to push the buttons in to release the extendable feet for extra stability. One button worked just fine and the other was a struggle. Using a chopstick, I was able to push the button in while pulling the extendable foot.

These pictures were taken on August 6, after a rainstorm.

The kneeler is dirty from my actions. As I dug out grass and other weeds, dirt and wood chips stuck onto me and the kneeler.

On August 6, early in the morning, as the first light was dawning, I walked around the dew draped garden.

As I walked back to the house, I saw a mockingbird preening.

While it was still cool, I wanted to get more weeding done in the blueberry circle. I was excited to try out my kneeler in a real world test. I was disappointed that I couldn’t get it to fold. I had to carry it unfolded to the blueberry circle.

I used the kneeler as I pulled and dug weeds. I really like it for comfort. The handles (supports between the legs) felt very strong. They are placed so they are easy to use for standing up. I really like the kneeler and seat, now if only I can get the legs to fold.

While I was weeding, Bruce was busy cleaning up the fence line along the south neighbor’s property. He wielded his electric pole saw to great effect and left branches and tree tops on our yard.

He started getting hot and told me he was heading inside. I stayed out longer than I should’ve after Bruce went in. I was hot and tired, sweaty and red faced. I washed up and downed a glass of water. Ah, the cooling and refreshing feeling of water sliding down a parched throat is wonderful.

The pawpaw tree that I ordered earlier in the week from Stark Bros, arrived well protected. Hopefully, this larger tree will survive any floods and grow well.

While the weather forecast showed a chance of rain, the skies were a beautiful blue, with puffy white clouds. It didn’t look like rain, so I left my new kneeler and seat on the patio. Down came the rain and washed my kneeler cushion out. After the rain, I undid the Velcro straps, opened up the cushion and put the cover and cushion into the tub to dry.

For dinner, I made a sourdough crust pizza. The most unusual topping was sliced Asian eggplant. I sprinkled spicy globe basil on top of the pizza after it cooled enough to eat.

I am not sure how Bruce knows when food will be ready. He pops into the kitchen and acts like I am not going to feed him. This time, when I was cutting the pizza, he stood there with his plate out, waiting for a slice. I want the pizza and I want it now! I want the pizza and I want it now. A mauling of The Doors “When the Music’s Over” somehow seemed to fit.

The picture of the setting sun through the front curtains was pretty.

The remains of the sunset were pretty.

    1. Thanks! I used a lot of my garden produce and Alabama sourced food. The tomato sauce ingredients (except for the salt and pepper) were harvested from my garden. The eggplant was from the garden. The Conecuh Sausage is from Alabama.
