House Walking Tour of Sheffield, AL

May 8, 2026

Saturday, April 25, was the last walking tour of Sheffield, AL for 2026. Since we enjoyed the business tour so much, we decided to go to the house tour.

We enjoyed seeing the various homes and hearing stories about them. Andrew Jackson camped in the area on his way back from the Battle of New Orleans. Jackson thought the area was so beautiful that the country’s capital should be moved to the bluffs of the Tennessee River.

Here are a few of the houses we stopped at and had the history told to us. I am not going to tell the stories.

After the walking tour, we went to lunch at the Sheffield Public House. Bruce had his favorite lunch meal, fish and chips. I had the appetizer Mediterranean Platter for lunch. It was fun since I got to try several different foods.

We got home around 3:00 PM.

We walked around and admired the peas. The Magnolia Blossom Snap Pea has beautiful flowers, and so many of them.

Some of these are making purple peas and some are green peas. The early tender tendrils are edible, and have a pea flavor. The leaves and flowers are edible, with a strong pea taste. I look forward to the peas being ready to eat.

We also checked out other parts of the garden. I was pleased with the garden progress.

We had left one peach to get ripe on our Saturn peach tree. The peaches are donut shaped without the hole.

Later in the evening, we sat out on the front porch. I am going to write a separate post on that.

    1. You can sort of see it is a flat peach with the middle curving inward. As it grows, I post additional pictures.

I was looking for peas that had edible tendrils and came across the magnolia blossom peas. The tendrils, flowers, and leaves are delicious. I was planning on using them in salads. Maybe a pea and radish salad?
