March 4, 2025
On Tuesday (March 3), we decided to take advantage of the beautiful weather. After we got home from our motorcycle ride, we did some work on the garden. Physical activity was needed to keep our minds off our loss.
Bruce added the three bags the Lowe’s top soil to each of beds A4, A5, and A6.
While Bruce was moving the bagged dirt, I uncovered the greens under the hoop. The hoops covered with several layers of row cloth survived the winter with temps down in the teens F. They were blooming. Weeds had also enjoyed the protected covering.

Before sunset, we moved enough dirt to fill in between the logs for two sections and part of the third section of the new garden bed. We moved three cart loads of dirt, shoveling it into the cart and using the mower to pull the cart next to the new garden bed. We unloaded the dirt into the garden bed.
It was a lot of work and we felt we had accomplished a lot.
Sitting on the porch and watching the sunset was a great way to rest.
Yesterday (March 3), Bruce spent some time in the morning rearranging the his tool boxes and the work bench.

He moved the toolboxes from the north wall to the east wall and the workbench down.
Bruce keeps saying on a rainy day, he’ll try organizing his tools and getting them put away. Bruce hates organizing, but once it is done, he is great at putting things away in their place.
While Bruce was rearranging the toolboxes, I planted the tomato seeds.
In the afternoon, Bruce worked on digging around the stump of tree number 1. He used a pickax and a shovel. Meanwhile, I added Bama dirt over the Lowe’s dirt in beds A5 and A6. A4 has fireants.
Bruce got out the chainsaw and cut the exposed roots. He then headed over to Pine 3 and cut it into logs just tall enough to work in the raised garden beds.
I went and admired his work.
He asked me if there was anything else I wanted to do. Yes, I told him, I want to set up the short trellis for the peas. He did most of the work while I helped.
We had steamed crab legs for dinner.
I recognize those plants! They’re mustard spinach. (Tasty, tasty greens! 😊)
This seems like a good time of year for organizing things. Now you all will be ready when the heavy work comes.

You got it! Those are mustard spinach.
This weekend is supposed to be rainy. That will be a good time to take a break from shoveling dirt!

But first pick a little salad! 🥗
I bet you won’t take the weekend off to relax, though. You’ll probably organize the garage. 😆

No, I shouldn’t touch Bruce’s stuff. I’ll put them in places that make sense to me and not to him.😂
I do help by searching through the boxes to find the tools of one sort to hand to him. 🛠️🪛🪚🗜️🧰

I’m tired out by your work. I need to sit down. Throw a crab leg over here.

When life threw sad times our way, my mom would say, “Keep busy”. A good way to cope, I think. You got a lot done!

Yes, we are finding keeping busy helps us cope. We still find ourselves looking for her by the pump house. She liked to sit or lay down in the pump house shade. Bruce needs to be very busy on Thursdays since that was the day he called his dad.

I got most of my peas planted yesterday.

Wonderful! They are the first thing I plant; local wisdom is, if you have to roll up your sleeves when planting peas, you’ve waited too long!
Beds still gave some snow, so I’m good!

My husband’s toolbox is military precision. Sometimes out of order, but he always knows where something is. I cringe if he asks me, ‘can you find?’ only because we are so different about ‘things in plain view.’

Do you get the phrase, “It’s right there.” sometimes? I find myself turning it on Bruce once in a while when he is trying to do something on a website. I try not to say it since I know it can be annoying. I did some website development and went through classes for UI design. I worked with UI developers, so I know how websites work. Bruce complains bitterly when a website or app changes the layout.

Wow, that is admirable. Mike is good with website development, also.
