The RV Is Sold!

February 5, 2026

Now the promised post of selling the RV.

The buyers found the RV on RV Trader. They had a lot of great questions and were very excited to buy the RV. In January, they made an offer on the RV, sight unseen, during the midst of Bruce’s dad’s last medical issue. Bruce accepted the offer.

The buyer’s loan was approved, but the bank refused to wire the money. They would only do a cashier’s check. Our buyer said they had done several loans through the bank and the money had always been wired. The loan officer claimed the bank had implemented a new policy. The bank refused to send the check directly to them and would only send it to the buyer’s mailing address. I understand only sending it to the mailing address for security reasons. I still don’t understand why the bank couldn’t send it directly to us.

The buyer called to let us know the bank hadn’t sent the check when expected and we would be getting the check later.

Then a big issue happened, the bank put the address of the buyer’s mail forwarding service with our name as the recipient on the envelope. The mail forwarding service couldn’t legally forward the mail due to our name on the mail and not the buyer’s. The post office requires paperwork to allow someone to deal with your mail. Since our name was on the envelope, they couldn’t legally send it to the buyers. The mail forwarding service could only return the mail. This meant we did not receive the check when we expected.

I had stayed home while Bruce went to Jekyll Island, Georgia. I needed to be here to get the check. I had planned to deposit the check and when Bruce arrived, we could go to Jekyll Island, Georgia for Bruce’s dad’s visitation and funeral. I hadn’t received the check as expected. I was also really concerned about the weather. The ice storm barreling down on us put an end to our plans for me attending the visitation and funeral. It wouldn’t be safe to drive in an ice storm. Bruce stayed on Jekyll Island and bought clothes for the funeral.

The buyer called the mail forwarding service to find out why he hadn’t heard from them. Once the buyer found out about the name and address mix up, he set up conference call with his wife, their loan officer, and Bruce. Bruce felt we had been really patient and we had another buyer who wanted the RV and truck. He told them, “I really wanted this to work, but problems keep happening. I can’t keep waiting. We have another buyer who is interested and can wire the cash.”

Both the buyer and his wife were extremely upset with their bank. Bruce said the wife was crying because she really wanted the RV and cussing out the loan officer on the phone. She said we’ll never find this model at this price again. The buyer joined in on letting the loan officer know what he thought of them. The buyer and his wife were understanding of Bruce’s position. Bruce was keeping it as polite as possible, which turned out to be a good thing.

I contacted the second buyer, only to find he had bought a truck and trailer the day before. I called Bruce to let him know. Bruce called the first buyer and asked if he still wanted the trailer. They did and luckily their bank hadn’t canceled the loan yet.

The bank couldn’t overnight the check due to the weather. They did send it once the storm let up. Once the check arrived at the mail forwarding service, again later than expected, the buyer drove to the mailing service and picked up the check. He didn’t want anymore delays or problems. He called to let us know he was heading to us and he’d be there in five hours. We had him meet us at the RV.

He arrived on Friday night (January 30). We only did a tour of the RV inside because it was in the low teens outside, with wind chill making it feel like 7 degrees. He asked if we were okay with him sleeping in the RV overnight since he was exhausted from all the driving. We agreed since it was going to be his. We gave him one set of keys. He wanted to do the paperwork on Saturday morning since he was strung out from the road. I also think he wanted to see the outside before signing over the check.

On Saturday morning (January 31), Bruce explained all the outside features and things you have to do. We had to keep going inside to warm up because it was so cold outside. The buyer said he had been all over the outside looking at everything before we arrived. He had used the keys to check out thethe storage compartments (basements in RV terms).

Once we completed the tour, Bruce, I, and the buyer filled out the paperwork to finalize the sale. I took a picture of our map on the slide on the way out.

The Map of All the States We Spent the Night in

We took the buyer out to breakfast. The buyer planed to stay all day Saturday and maybe Sunday due to high winds on the route to Tampa, Florida. We drove separately to breakfast since the buyer wanted to fill up on diesel, get some TV dinners, and get batteries for the TV remote.

We waved goodbye in Florence, AL as he pulled out. We drove directly to the bank and deposited the check. When we got home, I cancelled the insurance on the RV.

On Monday afternoon (February 2), we drove to the RV park and canceled our site renewal. The owners of the RV park prorated our stay, which was nice of since we had just paid for February. We went to the courthouse and turned in the tag. There was about a 30 to 40 minutes wait. After we turned in the tag, we dropped the refund check from the RV park at the bank. We were completely done!

The Empty Site! The RV Is Gone!

Once the buyer reached home, he had a question about the hybrid tankless water heater. “What did the flashing light mean?” Bruce explained what it meant and how to turn on the water heater. They chatted a bit. The buyer had no problems on the way and he was very impressed with the independent suspension.

The buyers are also full-time RVers, so the RV is a good fit for them. I really hope they enjoy the RV as much as we did!

    1. It was both a very happy day and a bit of a sad day. I loved traveling and the RV was wonderful for living in while we traveled. It was wonderful to finally have it sold. There will no longer be monthly expenses and worry that something could happen to it.
