Bruce Leaving to Say Goodbye

January 19, 2026

Last night, Bruce called his younger sister and they talked for a while. As Bruce came to bed, he said, “I hoped that helped her some. It seemed to.” I said, “I hope it helped you as well.” His reply was so sweet as he held me. “ You’re what helps me.”

Today, Bruce got a call from his brother. Bruce’s dad is being moved from the hospital to his house for home hospice. The representative from the hospice organization came to evaluate Bruce’s dad. She told the family they needed to move fast and helped get things organized. She did feel the doctor was optimistic about how long my FIL would be with us.

Bruce and his siblings are all “converging on Jekyll Island”.

Bruce got packed, booked a hotel room, and started driving to Jekyll Island at noon. Nox was worried about him leaving. She knows he is going to be gone for a while when he packs a suitcase. She was whining about Bruce leaving. I picked her up and carried her out to the garage so she could watch Bruce leave. For some reason, seeing him leave, settles Nox.

Why am I not going with Bruce at this time? Bruce wanted me to stay home. We are in the middle of selling the RV; Bruce wants me to take care of it. Nox needs a shot on Tuesday and Bruce had talked about staying until after Nox got her shot.

I told Bruce to go today. I said he needs to be there and just like that, he was getting ready to head out.

Bruce always asks me, why does everything always happen at once?

  1. None of us have the same experience, but Hospice does make it more doable for the families I worked with and certainly, for ours. I hope for the best outcome possible and that Bruce’s father is comfortable and the family comforted. Peace be unto you all.
