I had purchased a bird feeder online. We purchased a pole from Lowe’s. At Rural King, we bought sunflower seeds, spicy suet, a suet holder and a sock feeder.
On Valentine’s Day, we placed the pole in the front yard so we could see it from the living room picture window. We hung the bird feeder and suet holder onto the pole. We hung the sock feeder onto the purple magnolia tree.

Did you catch that? While I had my suspicions the little tree out front was a magnolia, this opening flower bud confirmed my suspicions.

I hope the cold doesn’t kill all the buds. This tree is lovely while not blooming. It will be a stunning explosion of color and a feast for the eyes once it flowers. I hope it smells nice as well.
How exciting to see the purple magnolia!

It is! I am really hoping the cold later this week doesn’t kill too many buds.

That is a wonderful tree to look forward to. It’s good that it looks good before it blooms.

The unexpected 15 degrees F killed a lot of the buds. I hope the freeze didn’t kill all of the flowers

I hope the tree will be okay.

The tree will be okay, but maybe not the flowers.

Our neighbor had a magnolia tree. I got bonus points in botany class for bringing in a leaf (consisting of 5 leaflets, I believe?)

With it getting down to 15 degrees F, the buds that are showing purple won’t make it. I am sad we’ll be way when the first magnolia flower blooms. I was very excited to see the daffodil buds, I expect I’ll miss seeing the first blooms.
