On December 15, we headed out to Lowe’s and then Home Depot. Bruce wanted to get a hard hat with a face shield for using his new electric chainsaw. He also needed to get some oil for the chainsaw bar.
We were able to find the oil at Lowe’s, but Lowe’s didn’t have the hard hat with the face shield. Lowe’s also had gloves that appeared to be very protective. I got them since I need something to protect my hands and wrist from the blackberry canes’ thorns.
Home Depot is just a short distance from Lowe’s, so we headed over there to see if they had face shields. They had hard hats and face shields. The face shields were almost $60 compared to the $25 cost of the hard hat. We purchased the hard hat and face shield.
Yesterday, while it wasn’t raining, Bruce got the chainsaw ready while I put together the hard hat. Bruce adjusted the hard hat and installed the face shield.
Off he went to cut up the large branch that had fallen on the fence and drove the fence post into the ground at least two more feet.

In the Before picture, on the left side barely visible behind the yellow leafed bush, the branch is on top of the fence post. In the After picture, in the middle of the picture, you can see the white top of the hit fence post. It is to the right of the large tree.
Bruce’s face shield is flipped up, so I am not sure you can see it.
This is the end of the branch that came down! The limb was solid, so we aren’t sure why it broke and pulled down.

While Bruce was chainsawing away, I was testing my new gloves. I pulled up some blackberry canes. I picked up punky wood branches and moved them into the punky wood pile.
The good (burnable) branches went into another pile. I dragged that pile down to the fire ring for bonfire fuel.
It started raining shortly after Bruce had finished his chainsawing and we were taking Nox out for a walk.
I think you are enjoying being a homeowner again. 🙂

Yes, I am enjoying so much of it. I love our homestead land. The leaky roof, not so much. Thank goodness it is not leaking now.

No leaky roofs, especially at this time of year, are a very good thing. 🙂
