Yesterday, we checked out an estate sale, a thrift store and a vintage store.
The vintage store is called Funky Monkey and has 58 different vendors. It was a blast to walk through.
We found two Queen Anne style dressers that are lovely to look at and solid wood. We measured them and they would fit in the spaces we have.
We bought them and had them loaded onto the truck. When we got home, Bruce drove the truck around to the back of the house and backed up almost to our sliding glass door.
We removed the drawers, tipped the first dresser upright and carefully unloaded it. Bruce got the feet onto the floor inside. He said he had it, unfortunately, the dresser slipped and broke one foot off and damaged the other foot that was in the house. The two feet on the truck were okay. I wonder if the dresser foot had been damaged before.
We got the dresser into the bedroom and are using a couple of boxes to hold it up for now.
We unloaded the second dresser without any mishaps.
After cleaning out the dresser, Bruce and I put our clothes away. It is so nice not to have bags of clothes everywhere. This felt like a true accomplishment.
Bruce brought home my jewelry box from Golden. I was happy to put it on the dresser.
I still need a bedside table.
Bruce went out and mowed for a while. He loves the new lawn mower.
We have several stumps in our yard at various ages. Bruce decided to try the fire method of drilling a hole from the top of the stump, then drilling a hole in the side of the stump to meet the hole from the top. You then put burning twigs into the top hole. The side hole allows for air to feed the fire. It was intriguing to watch.
Bruce broke off the sections on another stump and put on top of the burning stump. He wanted to spread the fire around on the stump.
The stump he was using the maul on also split into several sections. Bruce carried a piece of burning wood to that stump to see if it would act as a Swedish fire log. It did! That stump burned beautifully. No pictures though.

How do you drill through the stump? All I have is a handheld drill, and I can’t picture that working.

It was a cordless hand held drill. Bruce used drill bit extensions to get a longer hole.

And that was enough? Was it just for air flow? I guess I was picturing hollowing out the core somewhat.

He drilled a hole from the top of the stump first. That hole was for the fire to burn. Then he drilled a hole in the side of the stump to meet the bottom of hole he drilled from the top. The side hole allows air to get to the fire, allowing for a nice burn.

yes, that dresser is really elegant!
I hadn’t heard that stump burning trick; it must take really good aim to get the vertical hole and the horizontal hole to meet up with each other!

It does take good aim to get to holes to line up. Bruce did manage it.
