Visiting the Tennessee Valley of Art in Tuscumbia, AL

August 16, 2024

On August 15, after dropping Bruce off at the airport, I drove the truck back to the RV and took Nox for a walk. I hung out with Nox for a while. I read while she rested next to me.

I decided I wanted to go see the museum of art in Tuscumbia. I convinced Nox to go for a walk and after the walk, I made the RV safe for Nox.

I blocked off the steps to the bedroom and the kitchen. I also blocked off the theater seating. Blocking the up, if you will, prevents Nox from being able to jump up and then jumping down. We discovered that jumping down is what really aggravates Nox’s bad shoulder.

With Nox set, I drove the truck to the Tennessee Valley Art Museum.

Look at the Crepe Myrtles at the Entrance

The museum charges an entrance fee. They were having an exhibit by local artist members. Guest were allowed to take a ballot and write in the three top choices they liked.

I didn’t do a good job of getting the names of the artist or the title of the artwork.

Then, I walked into a room that was very unexpected. Petroglyphs had been moved and saved. I was expecting carved cave walls, not large boulders.

The room the petroglyphs were in resembled the cave the petroglyphs came from. It was dark and you had to press a button on the right wall. Dim lights shown on the petroglyphs in a timed display.

The carved footprints were a lot smaller than I expected. They looked like children’s footprints to me.

After I saw all the exhibits, I went back to decide what to vote for. It was hard to decide since I liked many of the works.

After voting, I headed back into the heat.

In the lawn, a sign points across the street to Ivy Green, the birthplace of Helen Keller.

Since Bruce didn’t sound that interested in touring Ivy Green, I decided to go by myself since I was already there.

That will be another post.

    1. I loved the potter painting. The action of creating the pot was so captured so beautifully. I loved the stain glass and was very pleased the picture came out. Since I love lemons, they got my vote.

  1. Julia, Thanks for the tour.  If I had a choice of pictures, I would pick the woman in red, the bird/birdhouse and still life with blue pitcher.  What did you pick? Love, Howard
