On May 28, I walked from Dakota Ridge RV Park in Golden to the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden. It is just down the way.
The Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum houses a collection of art quilts. They have a gift shop at the entry that sells quilt patterns, material, and glass platters made as quilt blocks.

The main exhibit was Evolutions. It was a judged exhibit. The winners were stunning, but I would have had a hard time selecting the winners.

I found the paper quilts by Jane Mathews to be very interesting. Imagine using candy bar wrappers to make a quilt!

I enjoyed the 4 Common Corners | Thorns and Spikes exhibit.

This quilt was part of Evolutions. It was a salvaged quilt that the artist dyed black. It was very interesting that from up close my phone camera was able to pick out the original colors/blocks. I couldn’t see them very well in person.
The artist added the skulls and used some of her collection of petit point needlework to make this stunning quilt.

There was an antique sewing machine and a couple of trunks that were part of the museum’s collection.

The art quilts are beautiful and it is impressive how many different ways the artist interpreted the mission for the exhibits.
Julia, As you probably know, Allene was into quilting for a while. Have you done it? I agree with the judges – that first quilt is stunning – deserves first place!! Howard

Howard, I did some quilting. I handmade the quilt that is on the bed in your guest bedroom for Allene. She treasured it.
The first prize was an amazing quilt with fabric pieces cut out and painted to make the portrait. I was astonished by the detail.

My mother used to be an avid quilter and rather skilled. I’ll keep the museum in mind in case she ever visits Colorado again.
