Fort Cooper State Park in Florida

January 7, 2024

This post is out of order. I kept meaning to post about visiting Fort Cooper State Park on Christmas Eve last year.

We took the motorcycle out for a ride to get breakfast out. On the way back home, we stopped at Fort Cooper State Park just outside of Inverness, Florida.

We paid the two dollar entrance fee at the main entrance and parked near the lake. While we were removing our gear, a ranger in a four wheeler stopped and started talking to us.

The ranger was excited to see others out on a motorcycle. The ranger had ridden his motorcycle into work that morning. We talked about the weather. The ranger gave us some tips on hiking in the park before heading back to the main gate.

It is a beautiful park for walking/hiking. It has a lot of paved level trails and sandy trails.

The large oak trees arched over the trails with palms interspersed in the understory.

We walked to the Withlacoochee State Trail entrance into the park. They do have a entrance fee into Fort Cooper State Park at this gate as well.

You can easily ride a bicycle on the Withlacoochee State Trail to Fort Cooper State Park from Floral City or Inverness.

It was a pretty park and we enjoyed walking around. We did keep a lookout for alligators; I am not sure if we were more relieved or disappointed that we didn’t see any.
