Walking West Along the Hennepin Canal in Sheffield, Illinois

On June 29, after some rain that cleared up the smoke from the Canadian wildfires, we hiked along the Hennepin Canal Trail to the west.

We walked a mile down the trail to a road. The road had two culverts, one for the canal and one for the trail. After walking through the culvert, we admired the larger canal width.

We walked a short distance on the grass trail to see the drain into the Devils Slough Ditch. We then walked back to the paved trail, since the grass was tall enough for us to worry about ticks getting on our calves.

It was a lovely evening walk for Bruce’s 59th birthday.
