On her new diet, Luna is starting to gain weight. Bruce and I weighted her last night, and she was up to 5 pounds and 3 ounces! That is a significant gain from 4 pounds and 6 ounces she had gotten down to! We still have a ways to go to get her back to her normal 7 pounds and 6 ounces, but since she has been on the new diet only for four days, and she is putting on weight, I feel so much better about her chances for living longer with a good quality of life.
She seems to be feeling better as well. She wanted to play ball with me when I got home.
We are taking her to vet next week to see if the medicine is helping and get another fluid injection. They will also do a sonogram on her kidneys to get a better idea of what is wrong with her kidneys.
I’ve learned my lesson. Those senior exams are important! We had only been taking the dogs to the vet once a year, because they’ve been in great shape. The vet’s office had sent us notices that we needed to bring them every six months due to their age. I don’t know if they would have caught the kidney disease earlier or not. All her blood work had come back fine in February of 2019, but if she had been tested in August of 2019, would the kidney disease have shown up then? Or did it just happen that quick?

Glad she is doing better!
