Planting Blueberries and Flowers

March 23, 2025

Saturday (March 21), was a busy day. We planted the five blueberry bushes. Bruce used the cart to bring water in a half barrel for watering the blueberries in. The five blueberries finished out the outer ring of blueberries.

I found the picture below funny. Bruce looks like he is trying to push the remains of Pine Tree 2 down. He is actually getting on the mower to move the water to the other side of the blueberry ring.

After a rest, I planted the flowers in the two front gardens. I want to make the birdbath garden a butterfly and hummingbird garden.

While trying to get up from my crouching position, I rolled backwards. I didn’t recover by continuing the roll and coming up on my feet like a gymnast. No, I had to roll forward off my back and get my feet under me to stand up. It was an interesting experience and one I don’t want to repeat.

The radishes sprouted. I’ll need to plant another couple of rows in a few days.

Here’s the protected tomato seedlings.

The hostas are growing. I am considering moving them to the small flower garden.

We sat on the front porch watching the sunset and the bats flying.

Sunday (March 22), we mulched the blueberries. I cut the cardboard, while Bruce shoveled pine chips into the cart. The timing worked out. I had finished getting the cardboard down on one side, when Bruce rolled up with a load of chips. He shoveled the chips over the cardboard. The same worked on the other side of the ring.

The pile of pine chips is almost gone. We’ll have to do more chipping soon.

While weeding one of the tall beds, I found a four-leaf clover.

I want to show you something cool, well, cool to me. Last year, I grew peppers in 5-gallon buckets. When the weather prediction was freezing, we moved the peppers into the garage. We left the peppers in the garage for the winter. When the weather warmed up, we took the buckets outside. Several of the peppers were clearly dead. A few had green stems. I watered the ones with green stems. I have been rewarded by the pepper plants leafing out.

I took some pictures of my lemon tree with small lemons and flower buds.

We had another beautiful sunset, making it a delightful way to end the day.
