Since I finished “Juneau in Wild Sunflowers” today, I thought it would be interesting to share the drawing from start to finish.

I had to take several breaks so I would feel like working on the sunflowers again. 😁 If it had just been Juneau, I would’ve finished the picture sooner. She is a beautiful dog and I enjoyed drawing her a lot. The sunflower leaves were time-consuming and I would think, maybe there should be fewer leaves. I enjoyed drawing the flowers, though. It was a labor of love!🥰

Oh, that came out wonderful! I found if I scroll real fast, it’s like flipping a book’s pages and the image comes to life!

Thank you! I am really pleased with how it turned out. The tail was tricky since it is fluffy and white.
The scrolling to see the picture develop was my plan! I don’t know if anyone else figured that out. Normally, I set pictures up in a gallery two wide. To get the full effect, I set the pictures up so you could scroll and see the image emerge.

Love it! It’s fun to see the various stages as you worked on the picture. I’m trying to figure out what the numbers mean on the paper at the side of one of the process photos.

Oh, the numbers and letters represent the amount of graphite in the pencils. 6B has the most graphite, so it is the darkest and 4H is the lightest. I like to have a chart of shades so I can easily determine which pencil to use.

That’s really interesting. I hadn’t realized pencils came in a range of shades.

The #2 pencil we used in grade school is equivalent to the HB pencil. It is a U.S. standard. The H – B standard is European. The U.S. standard is 1-4, with a 2.5 in there. #1 makes darker lines than #2. #2.5 is a little harder than #2 and is good for writing task that requires a fine line. #3 makes lighter marks and fine lines; it’s good for drafting and technical drawing. #4 makes very light marks and is used for highly detailed technical drawings and anything needing sharp straight lines. Most artists use the European standard since we get a lot more shades.

I really like your drawing of Juneau and the sunflowers. As I look back at the pictures in your post, I see that you added a large very lightly drawn flower on the right hand side at the end. It almost looks fluffy. I’m guessing you did that with a hard pencil. I’m not an artist, but this almost makes me want to try my hand at drawing.

You have it. Since the flower was turned, I wanted more sunlight on it.
