Before the weather got cooler (Tuesday, November 25), Bruce and I worked on putting together another tall garden bed.
We have discovered it is easier to get the logs in while we assemble the beds. It means we aren’t having to heave the logs over the sides of the bed while trying not to damage the braces.

We filled part of the bed with logs up to the bed braces. It is a great use of all the large branches from the downed pine trees.
I put chicken wire down in hopes it will prevent those rascally rabbits from getting into the beds. The cardboard helps kill the grass and weeds. Though for the tall beds, the grass and weeds would have a hard time growing. I still feel it is a good use for the cardboard boxes the beds came in.
I took the picture today while we checked on the covered plants after our cold snap. It looks like the protection worked. We may be done with the warmer days. If so, I’ll harvest the greens and radishes.
What will go in these beds?

The first long bed will be filled with asparagus. The bed we are working on will have a mixture of vegetables. I will be planting more items like beets, bush beans, black-eyed peas, mung beans, carrots, etc.
