Next Door Pumpkin Patch

October 20, 2025

October 13 (Monday): I’ve enjoyed seeing our next door neighbor’s pumpkin patch. It makes me think of the Halloween Charlie Brown special.

Pumpkin Patch on the Right

Bruce moved the birdbath to the middle of the small flower garden when he mowed. He put it right where I said I wanted it.

October 14 (Tuesday), we decided to eat out at Big Bad Breakfast. After breakfast, I walked around Reclaimed Spirit. The storefront opens into Big Bad Breakfast. It was fun walking around and looking at everything.

I spotted this and thought, “a few of these would’ve been great when we threw big parties.”

When we got home, Bruce spent some time on the Lowe’s site to track down more of one foot square stone stepping stones. The store in Decator, AL was still selling them.

On Wednesday (October 15), we had a very busy day.

The red pineapple had more flowers.

The Mung beans are finally making beans. The beans are next to the steam.

I spotted a small butterfly on the basil flowers.

I can’t identify this one!

I spent some time digging up flagged daffodil bulbs from the area I cleared of blackberry canes. I put the bulbs in a five gallon bucket after I dug them up. I carried the bucket around front to the large flower garden and planted them between two of the stepping stones.

A Few Yellow Leaves on the Purple Magnolia

I planted Greecian windflower bulbs in the small flower garden. I noticed the paperwhites had sprouted. Bruce was on the phone with his dad while I was busy planting. Bruce’s father’s right knee is giving him fits and Bruce was checking up on his dad.

After planting the bulbs, I washed up and suggested we drive to Decator, AL to pick up more stepping stones.

Bruce thought that sounded good. We decided to order the stones for pick up to make sure the stones would be there.

We drove past cotton fields, soybean fields, and corn fields. The harvesting has begun and I saw a lot of harvested fields. In one cotton field, the harvested cotton looked like a round hay bale wrapped in a pink cloth. The ends were white. I hadn’t seen cotton stored that way before.

When we got to Lowe’s, they hadn’t pulled our order yet. We went and picked out the stones and took them to the pick up area. The cashier called another employee over to mark that we had picked up our order.

We stopped at a Japanese restaurant in Decator to eat supper. Noriya Japanese Cuisine serves soup, salads, sushi, poke bowls, ramen, and teriyaki. We both had soup. I had miso soup and Bruce had the clear broth mushroom soup. The soup set our expectations for more delicious food. Bruce had a spider roll, spicy tuna handroll, and scallop nigiri. I had the spicy tuna poke bowl. The carrots in my poke bowl had been spiralized into very thin noodles. The carrot wasn’t pickled. The long carrot noodles were hard to eat. Bruce’s handroll had slightly tough Nori. The service was good. Overall, it was good and we enjoyed eating there. I’d give them a 4.3 stars.

Once we got home, we unloaded the stepping stones, placing them by the large garden bed.

At sunset, Bruce took the trashcan down to the end of the driveway.
