My father-in-law’s right knee swelled up and was very painful. He went to an urgent care center, but they closed before he could be seen. He headed to the ER. They took a fluid sample, gave him some antibiotics, and sent him home.
He saw his GP after the test results came back a couple of days later. They thought is was gout.
One side of his knees got better, but the other side got worse and became increasingly painful.
He went back to his GP, who sent him to a joint specialist. The specialist took one look and had my father-in-law sent to the hospital for surgery.
My sister-in-law started driving down to once she heard he was being admitted to the hospital and would have surgery.
My father-in-law has an out-of-control infection. When the ER drew fluids, the infection was pushed into healthy tissue and spread. He was starting to have kidney failure.
The specialist operated yesterday to clean out the infection and put in a special drain that applies suction to remove the infection. My FIL is now on three antibiotics to kill the infection.
My father-in-law says he feels so better already. The nurses are crediting the specialist with saving my father-in-law’s life.
My FIL is going to have a second surgery on his knee to clean out more of the infection tomorrow.
After the infection is killed, they are sending my FIL to a burn unit in Jacksonville, FL. The infection killed skin and muscle tissue and the burn unit will do some reconstruction.
We didn’t realize just how bad this was until he was sent to the hospital.

That’s marvelous that they caught the infection in time. Your FIL has really been through the mill lately! I hope he recovers quickly.

I am just glad my FIL went back to the doctor and his GP sent him to the joint specialist.

Thank heavens it was caught before it was even worse. I will say a prayer for his recovery.

It has been a rough time for him, and thus, the family. May you all have peace and comfort during another rough patch, and hope for a good recovery.
