On Sunday (October 5), Bruce pulled the chipper into the back pasture, next to the branch pile to be chipped. While Bruce feed branches into the chipper, I dug up flagged daffodil bulbs. I had flagged the daffodils when they bloomed in the spring.

For protection when chipping, Bruce wears his hard hat with a face shield, coveralls, boots, and gloves. In the above picture you can see Bruce’s hard hat and face shield.
Where I used flags to mark the daffodils, tall islands of grass and a tall grass peninsula, sprouted from Bruce avoiding the flags when he mowed.

The ground was a lot harder than I thought it would be. It was very hard work trying to shovel through the grass. Since the shovel wasn’t cutting through the grass the way I expected, I took a look at the shovel. I realized the shovel needed sharpening. Using a file, I spent about three to four minutes sharpening the shovel. Much better! The shovel cut through the tough grass roots into the dirt a lot more easily.
I dug all the flagged daffodils from the islands in the grass. As I dug them up, I placed them in a 5-gallon bucket. I started digging bulbs from the peninsula. When I got close to the blackberry brambles, I called it quits. The canes had reached out and grabbed me, as I tried to dig up some bulbs. Ouch, ouch, ouch! I needed more protection.
Bruce made a huge dent in the branch pile. Bruce took the before-and-after pictures below.

I went inside to cool off and Bruce joined me a short while later. Bruce got a shower since he wasn’t planning on doing more yardwork.
Once I cooled off, I took the daffodil bulbs and planted them in the large flower garden. Once I finished planting the bulbs, I came in and got a shower.
In the cooler evening, Bruce mowed down the islands in the lawn and reduced the size of the peninsula.

Bruce says it is much easier to mow now that the islands in the lawn are gone. I put a lot of work into removing the islands by filling in holes and then digging up the daffodil bulbs. I’ve got more bulbs to dig up. I’ve got to do some serious blackberry cane clearing before I can reach the last bulbs.
We had a beautiful sunset.

When we took Nox outside for her nightly walk around 9:00 pm, the moon was brightly shining through clouds. I was surprised at how well these pictures came out.

Your photographs were lovely.
