Butterfly, Two Caterpillars, and Pupa

August 13, 2025

On Sunday evening (August 10), we had a beautiful sunset.

On Monday (August 11), I was feeling a lot better.

Hackberry Emperor on Sliding Door

In the morning, I went out to battle the squash bugs. I turned over a squash leaf and squash bug nymphs ran away. Ugh! Time for death by soapy water!

Bruce joined me on my garden inspection. When we got to the apple trees, there were two different species of caterpillars on the apple trees. Aphids also were on the tender leaves of the apple trees.

Unfortunately, while I was looking up the Giant Swallowtail caterpillar, Bruce squished it. It had eaten several apple leaves, so I can understand his upset. I didn’t clarify that he shouldn’t squish it until I figured out what it was. I would have moved the caterpillar to a different host once I discovered it was a Giant Swallowtail.

I also picked several cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and okra while in the garden.

I spent some time finishing up a drawing.

After 3:00 PM, I spent about an hour digging up broom straw grass from between the blueberry bushes. It was hot and sweaty work.

Bruce was in front of the garage working on the hedge trimmer to see if it was jammed.

He got the hedge trimmer working, but he caught the fence with it. That made it go back to not working correctly.

After a shower and supper, we watched some garden videos on YouTube and went to bed.

It was a nice day.
