Six Blueberries Are Planted

March 27, 2025

On March 25 (Tuesday), we planted the six blueberry bushes we purchased from a local nursery, Porter Garden Center. We had planted two small blueberry bushes from Gurney’s Seed & Nursery (mail order) earlier.

We planted the blueberry bushes in the circle Bruce had measured out. Bruce dug the holes. I placed the bushes in the holes and judged for depth. I adjusted the bushes as we measured the placement to keep the bushes in the correct position for the circle. I would back fill the hole with the blueberry bush positioned in it, while Bruce dug the next hole. I watered the bush in and would add more dirt if the dirt level settled after watering.

I didn’t have my phone with me, so I didn’t take any pictures of the planting operation. It was somewhat similar to the fruit tree planting operation, except I had a lot of help with the blueberries.

I am not sure how any of these plants are going to do in the red clay soil.

I haven’t mulched the plants yet. I plan to sheet mulch around the trees and bushes with the leaves Bruce raked up.

We want to get more blueberry bushes to complete the twelve point circle. We are leaving one spot open as Bruce says, or empty as I would say to allow easy access to inside the circle.

The blueberry bushes are 12 feet from the center and 12 feet from alternates, about six feet apart.
