With the disappointing results from the soil tests, we decided to use raised garden beds with premium topsoil and compost. We are going to purchase topsoil and compost to fill the beds.
Yesterday, the boxes for the short beds arrived from Amazon. We bought Birdies metal garden beds from Epic Gardening’s store on Amazon. The short garden beds are 15” tall. The beds are configurable and we are putting them together in the 4’ x 8’ configuration.

Bruce carried the boxes into the garage.
Today, we put together one of the beds. Bruce drove the mower around with the trailer to make sure there was space between the bed and fence. We want to use the trailer to put in dirt.

The taller (29”) Birdies metal garden beds should arrive on Thursday.
We’d like to get the short ones put together before the tall beds arrive.
We finished the second bed and while Bruce went to sweep leaves, I went ahead and started lining the bottom of the beds with cardboard. The first bed was lined with lots of different cardboard boxes broken up. The second bed was lined with one flattened large box.
Bruce arrived after I had cut the large box to fit. He was going to stomp it down for me. I yelled, “STOP!” I didn’t want him to break the braces in the middle.
He did manage to stop mid-stomp. He almost fell over.
I explained I had the box on top to cut it to size, then I was going to wiggle it underneath the wire supports in the middle.
Bruce was a great help in getting the big cardboard piece in place.

The second bed didn’t take as long to put together as the first bed. We knew what we were doing the second time around.
Your raised beds look great.

Thank you! We do feel it is becoming home. Bruce has been very impressed with how much work we’ve gotten done.

Good for a vegetable garden. My dad in Alabama, after they retired in Bon Secour, put together a great little garden.

I used one of those beds for my strawberries, and a neighborhood rabbit tunneled under the metal and laid its horrid brood under one of my plants. Watch for holes around the edges of the metal!
