All three of our sinks developed slow drains. In the inspection report, it was noted that the sinks were draining slowly. It has gotten much worse. It is so bad, I can’t wash dishes in the kitchen sink.
I called Roto-Rooter Plumbing to unclog our drains.
The plumber came out. He discovered our drains weren’t put in correctly. We have water input turns installed instead of sewer turns.
Water input has 90 degree turns, while sewer turns have 60 degree turns. The more gentle turn allows for non-water particles to easily move through the pipes.
The plumber’s equipment won’t work with the water input turns. He couldn’t unclog the drains.
He also found the shower drain was not attached and the bathtub drain doesn’t have a p-trap installed underneath it.
We’ve asked for a quote to determine how much it is going to cost to replace the messed up plumbing under the house.
I was told I would have an estimate the next day. When I didn’t get one, I called to see when we might get an estimate. I was told they were working on it and I should get it the next day. Still no estimate.
Bruce is considering if he should do the work himself. He wasn’t thrilled with the idea of crawling around under the house, but he feels he can do the work and get the sinks unclogged.
The washing machine would also have trouble as well. I would like to have the plumbing resolved before the washing machine comes.
Ugh!!! The joys of home ownership!!!

That is awful!! You buy a house thinking everything is fine, and then things explode.

The inspector did point out that there were problems with the plumbing and we knew we needed someone to do some work. We had one plumber out, but I don’t know that. He did much. He was supposed to have fixed the shower drain. The picture the Roto-Rooter guy showed us, the shower drain was completely disconnected.

homeownership is never boring, is it? But then, life throws us all kinds of curves; you just sort of have to roll with it! I hope you are able to throw money at it, rather than throwing Bruce under the house!

Bruce doesn’t have to get thrown under the house! We are now on their schedule for next week.

Oh man…bummer. This is one thing that has to be fixed sooner rather than later! I hope it does not cost too much.
