Move Rant, Feel Free to Skip

October 14, 2024

Since I hadn’t heard from the movers, I called them today.

Either the man I set the move up with doesn’t understand several things or he is just an outright liar.

First, I was told that we would talk again before the move. It didn’t happen.

I called the number he gave me to let him know I found the list of items in storage and I thought we would need a price update. I thought we’d have to give them more money.

I got someone else who was helpful.

She said it didn’t look like the QA department called me. I agreed I hadn’t gotten any calls and I was concerned that the moving truck wasn’t large enough.

She told me there was a two day window! This was the first I had heard of it! The movers could be ready Wednesday or Thursday. That is not what I was originally told.

After I hung up, she sent me an email about the move, things the movers wouldn’t move and somethings they wanted done.

I checked my email Junk folder and found an email from the QA person, sent at 8:33 AM this morning.

I sent him an email about the updated move list and I’ll call him tomorrow since he didn’t call me today. We’re running out of time.

If the truck isn’t big enough, we’ll have to do this again. I am thinking U-Haul.

I have no idea why I wasn’t told this on the original phone call. It wouldn’t have affected what I did, but being told like this made me angry. Bruce wasn’t happy about it either.

AmeriSafe Moving Services gets good ratings, but I am not going to be giving them one.

  1. Sadly you hear this story too often. If you can, you may just want to move yourself. Maybe contact your Chamber of Commerce to find reliable movers to unload your truck if you go the U-Haul route.

    1. We needed movers at the Golden end, so it seemed reasonable to just pay them to move our stuff. Ugh! We could’ve hired a truck, hired movers to load it and then hired movers to unload the truck.

      1. I have a friend have Mayflower hold her property hostage, demanding double the money before they would bring them to her (after taking a month to make a three day move). Keep track of all of your paperwork and phone calls in case there is a lawsuit.

      2. Thank you so much for your warning. I think you saved my bacon. (Not real bacon, Murphy.)

We are canceling the move and since payment was with the credit card, I am having them dispute the transaction for the deposit.

    1. We are canceling the move. I am sure you’ll hear all about it from Bruce. What a bunch of liars. I’ve put in a dispute with the credit card company. I am considering also reporting them for elder abuse.
