Tuscumbia Railways Museum

August 26, 2024

On August 22 (Thursday), we rode to the Tuscumbia Railways Museum. We were sure it was going to be open since Google claimed it was temporarily closed. Google was wrong; the museum was open.

The Tuscumbia Railways Museum, shown on Google maps as Tuscumbia Railways, is near downtown Tuscumbia.

They have several donated railway cars and a small (3 car) roundhouse in the back of the depot.

The back of the depot had information signs and baggage carts.

We went inside and paid the entrance fee.

We went through the ticket office to the other sections of the depot.

There was an exhibit of WW II soldiers, the 718th.

There were other exhibits that I didn’t get good pictures of due to glare on the glass cases.

The front of the museum was a covered porch. The worn stone at the front of the museum showed just how many people had passed over the threshold.

While Bruce was getting ready to leave, I walked across the street and took a picture of the front of the depot.

There were large, beautiful crepe myrtles blooming at the ends of the depot.

We did tell the administrator about the window pane that was falling out. She said, “Thank you for letting me know. Six years ago, I told them they needed to caulk the windows to prevent the glass from falling out. They didn’t listen, so now it is going to cost over $100,000 to repair the damage. The depot is in the register of historic buildings, so the repairs have to be done to match the original building.”
